Away from the hustle and bustle of the big city, holidaymakers in Lüdingworth enjoy peace and tradition. Farms and horse stables, cosy accommodation and a church that has it all - this is a holiday in the countryside, but with class.
But the marshland village is also known for its horse breeding successes. For centuries, horses have grazed here on the fat, green marsh pastures on the coast of the Elbe and the North Sea. The ever-fresh north-west breeze allows young horses to grow up healthy and older ones to recover.
A famous son of Lüdingworth was Carsten Niebuhr (1733 - 1815), a German mathematician, cartographer and explorer in Danish service. He was the first to use the method of lunar distances on the mainland to determine longitude.
Anyone interested in churches should visit St. Jacobi in Romanesque fieldstone construction and its historic organ from the workshop of the famous North German organ builder Arp Schnitger. The organ is considered an exemplary example of North German organ building during the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Not only its exterior design but also its sound is of high quality and it is a meeting place for well-known organists who give concerts on it.
Varied hiking trails and bridle paths invite you to explore the marshland and the "Herrschaftliches Moor" nature reserve on foot or on horseback. In the Worth-Huus museum of local history, fossils and petrifactions provide an insight into history. Janssen's Dance Palace, on the other hand, is a completely different kind of programme. Well-known and popular far beyond the region, it is a meeting place for young people and the young at heart at weekends.
